BANGLADESH: ACQUITTAL OF 8 DEATH SENTENCES STAYED

Bangladesh's Supreme Court Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain stayed a High Court verdict that acquitted eight people condemned to death for killing Mohammad Alam for six weeks.

Bangladesh's Supreme Court Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain stayed a High Court verdict that acquitted eight people condemned to death for killing Mohammad Alam for six weeks. The High Court commuted the death penalty of three others to life imprisonment on October 24, 2011. Alam and three others were killed at his New Jurain residence on January 2, 2002. The eleven death sentences were handed down in July 2005.
