BANGLADESH: FIVE MEN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MURDER OVER CARD GAME IN FARIDPUR

A Faridpur court on 29 September 2019 handed the death sentence to five men for murdering a man in a dispute over a card game five years ago.
The verdict was announced by District and Sessions Judge MD Selim Mia.
According to the case dossier, the convicts stabbed Jahidul Islam, a native of West Gangabaddi area of Faridpur, after an altercation erupted while they were playing cards on 21 December 2014.
Jahidul later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital.
The five convicts are ‘Akash’, 18, Saiful Sheikh, 27, Hashem Sheikh, 35, Jahid Khan, 28, and Jewel Bepari, 32.
Four of them were present at the court when it delivered the verdict.
