a court sentenced a man to death for killing his wife and two daughters for dowry at Dadanchak village in Shibganj upazila, Bangladesh, in 2001. The condemned convict was identified as Liton. After examining records and witnesses, acting judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Hrishikesh Saha handed down the verdict against Liton and also fined him Tk 5,000. The court acquitted four others, Razzak, Mostafa, Zillur and Baby Khatun, as the allegations brought against them could not be proved. According to the prosecution, Liton set fire to his wife Runi Begum, 30, and daughters Sharifa, 8, and Swapna, 2, August 16, 2001. They were admitted to Sadar Hospital in a critical condition where they later died.
