BANGLADESH: THREE MEN ARE TO WALK GALLOWS FOR MURDER IN CHUADANGA

the district court in Chuadanga, Bangladesh, sentenced three men to death and two others to life imprisonment for the murder of a UP member at Alamdanga 12 years ago. Additional District and Sessions Judge Manzurul Haq handed down the death penalty to former chairman of Kumari union parishad and upazila Awami League secretary Abul Kalam Azad, as well as his associates, identified as Helal and Mokim. Two people identified as Jharu and Amirul were awarded life imprisonment. They were also fined. According to the prosecution, the accused hacked to death UP member Monwar of Durlavpur village out of enmity when he was working in the filed on June 28, 1994. Dissatisfied at the verdict, the defence counsel said they will challenge the judgment in a higher court.
