The court acquitted six others involved in the case. According to the prosecution, Salma sustained severe burn injuries when her fiancé Nasiruddin hurled acid at her on June 19, 2004 after her family turned down his marriage proposal. She was rushed to the Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition where she died. Victim's mother filed against seven people.
