BANGLADESH. MAN SENTENCED TO HANG FOR RAPE

the district court in Manikganj, sentenced Refaj Uddin, 34, to death in absentia for raping a minor girl leading to her death. According to prosecution, Kamala Begum, a housewife of Kodalia village in the Tangail district, took her neighbor’s twelve year old daughter, Moina, on a trip to her parents' home at Kaotia village on May 24, 2001. There her brother Refaj led Moina to his bed on the night of May 27 and raped her. Moina was sent back home on May 29 but soon died for loss of blood.
