BANGLADESH. THREE MEN HAVE SENTENCES COMMUTED TO LIFE, CONFIRMATION FOR THREE OTHERS

the High Court of Bangladesh in Dhaka commuted to life imprisonment the death penalty handed down to Sajibul Islam, Kabul and Tajibul Islam and confirmed the sentences handed to Ekramul Hossain alias Anis, Shukur Ali and Minarul Islam Mina. 
A Chuadanga district court had awarded capital punishment to the six men on June 18, 2002 for the murder and gang rape of Minuara Begum, wife of convict Minarul, on September 1, 2000, for failure of her parents to meet a dowry demand.
