the Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal, Bangladesh, sentenced three people to death and four others to life imprisonment for the murder of Abdul Hamid Moru, district vice-president of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party and former chairman of Jhikra Union in the Bagmara district. Those given the death penalty were Jahangir Alam, Ali Khwaza Majid and Shukur Ali.
According to the prosecution, extremists of the Sarbahara Party gunned down and slaughtered Moru Hamid in a daring attack following rivalry after he managed to establish political supremacy over his local area on November 9, 2003.
As the prisoners were being whisked away onto the prison van after the verdict, they all shouted the slogan, “Duniar Majdur Ek Hao,” (All working people of the world unite).
