Kazi Mohammad Panna, Kazi Mohammad Anna and Kazi Mohammad Manna, aged 28 to 35, were sentenced to death and their two younger brothers, Kazi Mohammad Shahin, 24, and Kazi Mohammad Tuhin, 26, to life imprisonment by a court in Jessore,  for severing the arm and leg tendons of a man who died later in hospital. The court acquitted their father Fakhrul Islam Togor and two uncles, Farhadul Islam Bachchu and Shahidul Islam Mannu, residents of Bejpara. But they had already served more than a decade imprisonment due to a sloppy police report. According to the prosecution, the five brothers beat and cut the legs and hands of Ashikur Rahman Liton, 27, out of enmity on January 19, 1995.
