Abdus Salam and Zahid Hossain were condemned to death in absentia. According to the prosecution, the supporters of the defeated ward commissioner candidate Abdul Aziz attacked a victory procession of winning candidate M Humayun Kabir with fire arms, killing seven people on January 30, 1994, just after the election of Dhaka City Corporation. After examining the records and 30 witnesses, Judge ATM Musa pronounced the verdict in a crowded court.
