A court on 23 September 2019 sentenced two people to death, and three others to life term imprisonment, for killing a housewife in 2002.

A court on 23 September 2019 sentenced two people to death, and three others to life term imprisonment, for killing a housewife in 2002.
The condemned convicts are Sheikh Khairul Hasan, and Pilton Das of Rajpasha village in Sadar upazila.
The lifers are Ripon Sardar, Shahadat Hossain, and Abdus Salam of Sadar upazila.
According to the case report, the accused criminals came to Anwara Begum’s house with a motive to rob, but Anwara recognized their faces as they were from the same village.
Feeling scared over their identity being disclosed, the criminals hacked the women to death.
Later, a case was filed in this connection, and police submitted a chargesheet against seven people on 21 November 2008.
After examining the records, and hearing witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Mohammad Tofayel Hasan handed down the verdict, and acquitted two people as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
