BANGLADESH: TWO TO WALK THE GALLOWS FOR GANG RAPE IN SHARIATPUR

A Shariatpur tribunal sentenced two men to death for gang-raping a girl at Mahmud Shikdar Kandi village in Zajira upazila in 2015.
The condemned convicts Sujon Bepari, 28, and Shamim Bepari, 26, were tried in absentia on 26 June 2019 as they jumped bail two years ago.
District Judge Salam Khan of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict, and acquitted another accused as the allegation brought against him was not proven.
According to the prosecution, Sujon, and Shamim swooped on the victim on April 22, 2015 when she came out of their house at night. They gagged her, and took her to a bamboo bush where they took turns in raping her.
Family members rescued the girl after the rapists left her abandoned, and unconscious.
