The prosecution said that following an altercation, Monir hit his elder brother Sharif Sardar, 45, with a weapon, resulting in his immediate death.
A separate report from Manikganj said the district court had sentenced to death Ali Akbar Dewan, 24, for the murder of his grandmother in Jatrapur village, Harirampur. The prosecution said Akbar was engaged to look after Sayera Khatun, 75, whose sons and daughters were living away from home. On the night of April 22, 2002, Akbar strangled to death the old woman and fled the house with cash and gold ornaments.
