BOTSWANA: DEATH ROW INMATE APPEALS AGAINST SENTENCE

the lawyer of a murder convict in an infamous 2001 multiple-murder case filed for an appeal against the sentence with the Lobatse High Court in Botswana. Gerald Gerry Dube was convicted and sentenced to death by a Francistown High Court two months ago for the murder of a Francistown-based Attorney Patricia Majoko, her two sons Dumisani and Amotjilani as well as their house maid Lindiwe Ncube. The court heard that Dube killed the two boys and their maid and waited for Majoko to return from work, before killing her as well. Dube was sentenced to death by hanging on all four counts. Dube will ask the Court of Appeal, which resumes in January next year, that the four death penalties be set aside and substituted with any sentence other than death.
