Brian Lee Cherrix, 30, volunteer, convicted of killing 23-year-old Tessa Van Hart in 1994, was pronounced dead by lethal injection at the Greensville Correctional Center at 9:10 p.m. Police said Cherrix attacked, sodomized and murdered Van Hart after she delivered a pizza to an empty home, then shot her twice in the head to prevent her from reporting the incident. Cherrix becomes the 1st condemned inmate to be put to death this year in Virginia, and the 17th in the USA.
