it was reported that the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will manage to save an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), who was sentenced to death in Brunei for murdering his girlfriend. DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Jose Brilliantes told radio DZMM that the government acted on the recommendation of the Philippine mission in Brunei to appeal the case of Muslim convert Ibrahim bin Abdullah Puzone. The 50-year-old was convicted by the Brunei High Court of killing his waitress girlfriend, Vilma Taalal Misal. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo instructed DFA officials to exhaust all legal means and initiatives to aid Puzone from being hanged to death, Brilliantes said. According to the DFA, Puzone went to Brunei in 1994 and had been employed as a graphic designer. Puzone reportedly had a history of psychiatric problems and was treated with anti-psychotic medications.
