Capital punishment in Armenia should be replaced by life imprisonment, Arthur Bagdasaryan, Orinats Erkir (Legal state) parliamentary faction leader told the national press-club

Capital punishment in Armenia should be replaced by life imprisonment, Arthur Bagdasaryan, Orinats Erkir (Legal state) parliamentary faction leader told the national press-club. Orinats Erkir is going to vote for abolition of capital punishment in the country, he added. "The party considers it wrong to make exceptions for the terrorists accused of October 27 case as you cannot deprive the country of democratic reforms because of a few people," Bagdasaryan noted.The MP was referring to the terrorists charged with the 1999 attack on Parliament in which the prime minister and a number of parliamentarians were killed.Armenia should link its future with Europe and its values, he said.The Armenian Parliament is set to consider the ratification of Protocol 6 of the European Convention on the abolition of the death penalty, which it undertook on accession to the Council of Europe.
