CHINA. CHONGQING CITY NO 1 INTERMEDIATE PEOPLE'S COURT SENTENCES MEN TO DEATH FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

in its initial trial, the Chongqing City No 1 Intermediate People's Court, China, sentenced He Xiangai and Li Guiqiang to death on drug smuggling drugs.

The court also deprived them of their political rights for life and confiscated all their personal property. A third man was sentenced to life imprisonment on the same charges. In a separate case, the same court  sentenced Zhao Hong to death with two years reprieve on charges of drug trafficking and illegal arms and ammunitions transactions. He was also deprived of his political rights for life and had all his property confiscated.
It was reported that on 16 June 2004, “Zhao and Zhang bought drugs in Burma for 64,000 yuan. Zhang transported the drugs to Yunnan Province. On 17 June 2004, Zhang and Li hid the drugs inside garments and towels and sent them to Chongqing by parcel post. On 24 June 2004, police arrested Zhang, confiscating 1.43 kg of heroin. In 1996, Zhao bought two imitation revolvers.”
