Hu Jialong, Chen Riwen and Chen Dedao were sentenced to death by the Wenzhou Intermediate People's Court, China, after convicting them of killing a candidate supporter in a local election. Zhu Weifeng, 30, was nominated as a candidate for the chief of the Dushan village committee in Longwan District in March 2005. The position was seen as powerful because he could determine the land distribution of the village for the next three years.
When Zhu Weifeng noticed that Zhu Zhongqiang was encouraging villagers to vote for another candidate, he decided to summon some friends to "teach him a lesson”.
Zhu Zhongqiang was killed by the gang on March 21 when he stopped his car by Yongmei Highway. Zhu Weifeng was sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the murder.
