Yang Chao, 22, and Sun Feng, 25, were executed after a show trial for killing a cash transport vehicle escort and injuring three others during a 2004 robbery in Panshi in China’s Jilin Province.
The duo fled with more than 1.2 million yuan (US$144,000) and some ammunition but were caught within two days, the Supreme People's Court reported on its Website. Yang and Sun stole two motorcycles on September 28. The next morning, they bought two daggers at a shopping center in downtown Panshi City and then rode to Hongqiling Town.
At around 4 o’clock that afternoon, they forced their way onto a cash transport minivan bound for downtown Panshi from Hongqiling. Sun was a vault guard of the cash transport company at the time, and Yang, fired by the company a month before the heist, was a security guard at a local business. At around 5:20pm and halfway to their destination, Sun and Yang stabbed two escort men, Wang Sen, 19, and Xu Weifeng, 20, and a bank worker in the minivan. Wang died instantly, and Xu and the bank worker suffered slight injuries. During the attack, the vehicle veered off the road into a ditch, leaving the driver called injured. Sun and Yang fled with the money as well as a gun and 10 bullets. Sun was caught that day, and Yang, the next day. All the stolen cash was recovered.
