Chris Pond, MP for Gravesham, threw his support behind the Sikh community by writing to Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam urging him to take Davinder Pal Singh Bhuller off death row. Amnesty International called Bhuller's trial, for involvement in a 1993 New Delhi bombing which killed 12, "unfair" and say his unsubstantiated confession was made "under intense police pressure". He was sentenced to death in August 2001 and has been fighting the death penalty ever since.
