Christian Action for the Abolition of Torture (ACAT) released a report accusing a special military squad called Operational Command for killing around 50 people in the city of Douala between May and July during a crackdown on criminals. ACAT's report said well-armed soldiers organised daily raids where people are arrested on any pretext, ranging from illegal possession of firearms to a failure to produce identity cards. "Over 500 people have been executed summarily" wrote Christian Tumi, the Catholic Cardinal of Douala, in a letter to the authorities.
