Convicted prisoners at the Kamiti Maximum Security Prison, Kenya, complained to Home Affairs Minister Moody Awori, during his visit to the institution, saying their appeals took too long to be determined, especially for those sentenced to death, and that some inmates were afraid to make lodge appeals. "Life here is bad. The punishment we have received is enormous. But we are afraid to appeal for fear of getting harsher punishments like death sentences," said Jeremiah Wambugu, an inmate on life imprisonment, adding that some inmates on life imprisonment had appealed and found themselves being sentenced to death.
