Death row inmate David Blue has been resentenced to life in prison without parole under a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that makes it unconstitutional to execute the mentally retarded.
Blue, 28, is the 1st inmate in Mississippi to be resentenced under last year's ruling. At least 5 other death row inmates say they are mentally retarded.
Blue was convicted for the 1992 sexual assault and murder of Mary Turntine, 35.
Blue was 17 and had an IQ of 67 when he battered and sexually assaulted Turntine and stole her purse and pistol June 6, 1992.
