DEATH ROW WOMAN IN SIERRA LEONE’S PADEMBA PRISON APPEALS HEARING

on death row at Pademba Road Prison in Sierra Leone, Marie Sampa Kamara received notice that her appeal hearing was set to be heard on June 9, 2009. Sampa was convicted in 2007 of murdering her husband’s first wife’s child in 2004. Sampa, who is illiterate and poor, did not have consistent legal representation since being charged. Sampa’s court appearance was delayed due to procedural arguments.
