DELHI HIGH COURT UPHOLDS DEATH PENALTY

the Delhi High Court in India upheld the death penalty for Sushil Sharma in the tandoor murder case. Sharma was given the extreme punishment in 2003 for his role in the murder of Congress party worker Naina Sahni. Sahni's charred body was retrieved from a tandoor at a hotel in Delhi. The trial court judge described the murder as the 'rarest of rare' case. "A dead body is respected in this country. Everyone reveres a dead body on its last journey." Sharma argued that the 21 grounds of his conviction were wrong and not substantial, however the prosecution maintained it had sufficient evidence to prove Sharma killed Sahni because he doubted her fidelity.
