District Judge Tammy Bass-Jones -- for the second time in 14 years -- read a jury's verdict that Kenneth Eugene Hogan should be sentenced to death for the Jan. 28, 1988 stabbing death of his friend. Hogan, 42, was first convicted and sentenced to death more than 14 years ago in Oklahoma County District Court for the slaying of Lisa Renee Stanley, 21. In 1999, the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled his constitutional rights were violated when the trial judge failed to instruct the jury on the lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter. He was granted a new trial which began March 24 and ended with the same verdict -- guilty of first-degree murder and punishment by death. Hogan will be formally sentenced May 27.
