DRC. SOLDIER SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR POLL CLERK KILLINGS

a military tribunal in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's north-eastern district sentenced a soldier to death for killing two polling clerks.
Sergeant Innocent Mamale shot dead the two clerks from the Independent Electoral Commission in Fataki. In addition, he was ordered to pay 13m Congolese Francs ($30,000) as compensation to each of the victims' families. The tribunal also sentenced Mamale to three years imprisonment for abandoning his post. Mamale told the tribunal, “I do not know what happened to me and it is for the first time in my life.”
