EUROPEAN UNION: EP CALLS ON CHINA TO CANCEL ALL SENTENCES AGAINST TENZIN DELEK RINPOCHE

in a resolution adopted in Strasbourg, the European Parliament again expressed concern about human rights in China, and in Tibet in particular. The Parliament was pleased to note the commutation of the death penalty against Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, the Buddhist lama sentenced to death on 2 December 2002 after being accused (though this was never proven) of having taken part in bomb attacks and activities inciting separatism. At the same time, the Parliament urged the Chinese government to cancel all the sentences against him and release him immediately.
