Ex-hippie guru Ira Einhorn appealed to French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin to tear up an extradition order for his return to the United States to face trial for the murder of his girlfriend, his lawyers said. If Jospin rejects the request, Einhorn would turn to France's highest administrative court for a final decision - a move which could delay any eventual extradition for up to two years.
After years of legal wrangling, Jospin finally signed extradition papers in July following assurances from the United States that Einhorn would receive a fresh trial and would not face the death penalty if found guilty again. (Sources: Reuters, 19/09/2000) (estradc)
