Federal jurors in Muskogee recommended a death sentence for Kenneth Eugene Barrett.
The sentencing verdict was two sentences of life without possibility of parole and one death sentence in the Sept. 24, 1999 shooting death of Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper David "Rocky" Eales, 49.
The death sentence was for intentionally killing a state law enforcement officer during the commission of a drug trafficking crime and during the officer’s performance of his official duties.
Barrett shot and killed Eales and wounded Trooper John "Buddy" Hamilton.
Barrett, 44, already is serving a 20-year sentence in state prison for first-degree manslaughter in Eales’ death. That sentence is to be followed by an additional 10 years for wounding Hamilton.
U.S. District Judge James H. Payne set Barrett's formal sentencing for Dec. 7.
