Five people were sentenced to death, including two prison officers and a policeman, for possessing more than 800,000 methamphetamine pills with intent to sell. The Criminal Court in Thailand convicted Prayuth Lai-ngam, 41, Pol Sgt-Maj Sinchai Lai-ngam, 44, Chatchawal Promkamin, 51, Somchai Kusolpiamsuk, 53, and Samart Khongsuthi, 40, for having 817,520 methamphetamine pills in their possession with intent to sell. Prayuth and Samart were warders at Bang Khwang maximum security prison. Sinchai was a prison inmate who had earlier been sentenced to life by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court on charges of murder and robbery.
