Foreign Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz met with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshiar Zebari in Brussels to dissuade the Iraqi government from using capital punishment. Cimoszewicz warned that "if such a law is passed in 20 year-time Iraqi people will hold accountable each other and investigate who has been sentenced innocently. We understand that this is a very complex issue in to-days Iraq but the EU position is unequivocal", he commented. At the same meeting Cimoszewicz criticised PiS leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski for proposing the restoration of capital punishment in Poland and recalled Poland's international commitments in this respect.
