Former Central African President Andre Kolingba, sentenced to death [on August 26] for leading a coup against the country's president, has relocated from Kampala to Paris, France.
Kolingba entered Uganda on August 26, through the Democratic Republic of Congo in search of a temporary asylum. Uganda government officials said they received him on humanitarian grounds.
"As we talk now, he is in Paris, France. He left Uganda last week," an official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
"Uganda's gesture was humanitarian. We could not allow a person from a neighbouring country on such charges to stay here" the official added.
