10 June 2017: Saif al-Islam, second son of Libya’s former ruler Muammar Gaddafi, was released after he was captured in 2011 and sentenced to death by the Libyan government in Tripoli in 2015 for war crimes. He was released from the Libyan northwest city of Zintan on the basis of an amnesty approved by the House of Representatives of Libya in 2015, as declared by the militia Abu Bakr al-Sideeq.
