GOA COURT AWARDS DEATH PENALTY FOR MURDER OF DOCTOR

in Goa, India, Session Judge Nutan Sardesai awarded the death penalty to Ryan Fernandes, who was convicted of murdering his father-in-law Dr Shrikant Verenkar. Three others accused were sentenced to life imprisonment and one was pardoned for cooperating with police. On January 17, 2005, Dr. Shrikant Verenkar was abducted and his body was later found on the Cansaulim hillock near Remet Hill. The convicts had choked the doctor before dumping his body.
