Gov. Mike Easley commuted to life in prison the death sentence of Robert Bacon Jr. Robert Bacon Jr. was to have been executed by injection at 2 a.m. Friday. (see May 14 and Sept. 20) Bacon's case marks the first time Governor Easley has granted clemency.Bacon is the 4th North Carolina death row inmate, and the 46th nationwide, to receive clemency since the death penalty was reinstated.
