Greece, the current holder of the European Union presidency, called on Democratic Republic of Congo leader Joseph Kabila to commute the death sentences of 30 people involved in the murder of his predecessor and father Laurent Kabila, the foreign ministry said. Laurent Kabila was fatally shot in his office in January 2001. The death sentences were handed down by a military tribunal on January 7 after a nine-month trial.
