Ha Thu Thuy, a 35-year-old woman, was sentenced to death in Vietnam's southern province of Kien Giang. Thuy, who was having an affair with a married man, Duong Huu Phuc, invited her lover's wife Le Thi Hong Dai to her house in Rach Gia, the provincial capital on 7 February 2002.
Once there, however, she and four other women attacked Dai with a chair.
They then stuffed rags in her mouth to suffocate her and later that day dumped her body in a river, said an official at the Kien Giang People's Court. One of the four women was given a life sentence, while three others were jailed for between 16 and 25 years.
