Hoang Thanh Voi, a 54 year old former tax inspector, was sentenced to death by firing squad by a court in Vietnam's northern Bac Giang province for killing his mistress after she broke off their relationship. He had been found guilty of beating to death his 45-year-old mistress - the mother of his seven-year-old daughter - with a stick and then smashing her head repeatedly on the floor on May 26, 2003. Voi, who illegally had two other wives in other provinces, disposed of her body by putting it in a bag and throwing it down a well. He was arrested later that day, police said.
