House Committee on Foreign Relations chairman Apolinario Lozada Jr. advocated for the inclusion of smuggling of agricultural products to the list of crimes punishable with death by lethal injection. "These smugglers get their living by squeezing the life out of our farmers. We have to stop them now otherwise our farmers and the local industries would die," Lozada said. The legislator also declared that conspirators from the government be meted the death penalty too. "The smugglers would not make it on their own, there's got to be people from the government who protect and back them up. We should unmask these traitors in government service and make sure they pay the price for conniving with the smugglers in making life difficult for our people," Lozada declared.
