Human rights monitors in the Kavango region reported that three drunken Oshiwambo-speaking members of the Special Field Force (SFF) allegedly shot and killed Kangere Kanjenje, 31.
The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) said in a media release that the incident took place in Mayara village, and some 135 km east of Rundu, the regional capital.
Kanjenje was accused of wearing a SWATF (South West Africa Territory Force) T-shirt, NSHR said.
SFF members told him that they had already warned him several times about the said T-shirt, the release said. "A shot rang out and Kanjenje died instantly," it charged.
Before Namibian independence, SWATF fought alongside the apartheid-controlled South Africa Defence [Force] against SWAPO's People's Liberation [Army] of Namibia (PLAN). Former PLAN members predominantly make up the SFF, the release said.
In October 2001, NSHR said, a frenzied Oshiwambo speaking soldier of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), summarily executed Libwere Shampapi (31), another Kavango man, for "making noise" by playing traditional drums.
