Human Rights Watch, has implicated the government of Cote d'Ivoire in the violence that claimed hundreds of lives during the 22 October presidential elections. It said Government security forces reportedly shot at political demonstrators and ordered the arrest of civilians who were then executed and buried in mass graves or were left in the open. Reports said some people were even executed inside a gendarmerie camp. The bodies of 57 young men were found in a mass grave while 18 others were seen floating in the lagoon near Abidjan. Seven other bodies, with signs that they were massacred, were found near a bus station.
