Hundreds of tribesmen stoned to death a man after he allegedly killed his rival over a land dispute. Mulla Khel, 45, was dragged from his home in the tribal town of Lakhro and publicly stoned over a tribal jury's order, local administration official Mohammad Murad said. He said Mulla Khel had killed fellow tribesman Abdul Rehman over a property dispute in a hand grenade attack on his house in which two other people were also injured. The attack infuriated elders of the local Safi tribe who raised a force of hundreds of tribesmen and surrounded Khel's home. The accused opened fire on the tribal force injuring three of them, Murad added. The tribesmen overpowered the accused who died later in a hail of stones. They also set his house on fire and his family was banished from the village on the jury order, he said. Residents said such punishments are part of the tribal justice system in the region bordering Afghanistan, although stoning people to death is rare.
