In April, the residents of Kivumu sector in Nyamyumba Commune of Gisenyi Prefecture (northwestern Rwanda), urged the region's judicial authorities to execute publicly Zachary Ndayazi, who confessed to having taken part in the massacre of 34 people early in 1998. The 34 dead people, who included Bralirwa (Rwanda Breweries) employees and a number of teachers, were burnt alive on January 19, 1998, in a bus as they traveled to the Bralirwa headquarters in Gisenyi.
