a court in Bagerhat, Bangladesh, sentenced a man to death for killing his sister’s mother-in-law. Additional District and Sessions Judge M Rezaul Karim pronounced the verdict in presence of the accused Mohammad Ali alias Shakil. According to prosecution, Shakil came to the father-in-law’s house of his sister Rabeya Begum Tapsi at Bhasa village in Kachua uzapila on August 16, 2007. But he slaughtered Fatema Begum, the mother-in-law of his sister, when she was asleep at night same day on pretext that she had tortured his sister. Later, a case was filed against Rabeya and her brother Shakil. After examining records and witnesses, the judge handed down the verdict against Shakil and acquitted Rabeya as allegations brought against her were not proved.
