In El Cajon, a jury today recommended the death penalty for Michael Flinner, 36, who had his 18-year-old fiancee killed so he could collect the $500,000 from a life insurance policy he took out on her. Flinner was convicted Oct. 23 of 1st-degree murder and special circumstances of murder for financial gain for the June 11, 2000, slaying of Tamra Keck. Superior Court Judge Allan Preckel will sentence Flinner on Feb. 20. A separate jury recommended life in prison without parole for Haron Ontiveros, a laborer Flinner hired to kill Keck. Ontiveros, 30, will be sentenced by the same judge on Jan. 30.
