In Jacksonville, Circuit Judge Michael Weatherby sentenced Alan Lyndell Wade, 20, to death for his role in killing an elderly couple who were buried alive. The sentence followed an 11-1 jury recommendation that Wade receive the death penalty. The bodies of Reggie and Carol Sumner, both 61, were found buried in a shallow grave on July 8, 2005. The couple were robbed of jewelry and cash. Also charged in the crime were: Tiffany Cole, 26, for whom a jury, on Nov. 30, 2007, has recommended the death penalty; her boyfriend Michael Jackson, 25, who has been sentenced to death on Aug. 29, 2007 (see); and Bruce Kent Nixon, 20, who avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison for second-degree murder.
