in light of its decision in January that found the mandatory death penalty unconstitutional, the Ugandan Supreme Court ordered the revision of the death sentences of 35 prisoners. The court also specified that once a sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court, it must be commuted to life imprisonment if the person is not executed in three years. According to prisoner spokesperson Frank Baine, there are 637 people on death row, 21 of which have exhausted their Supreme Court appeals.
