In northern Afghanistan, members of the Hazara ethnic group called for an international investigation into crimes committed by the Taliban.
The Taliban captured Mazar-e-Sharif and surrounding areas in 1998 and, local leaders claimed, executed up to 15,000 Hazaras in their first five months of rule in a sustained policy of ethnic cleansing.
Hazaras say the regime targeted them because they did not consider them true Muslims as they are Shi'ite not Sunni Muslims.
